No Tethering for the 3G iPhone

To tether = verb, to get myself some internet connection from my cool 3G (i)Phone to my PC, whenever I feel like surfing the web from my cool laptop.

I am glad we all know what that means. How many of you guys and gals have done it? Getting some online action on your personal computer via your smartphone ? There’s nothing illegal right there. After all you are the one paying for the data plan, any eventual surcharges and for the electricity your devices use. And you purchased the iPhone mainly because it’s cool and popular, not necessarily because it’s a better handset.

Since you have paid for all that equipment and plans why shouldn’t you use them as you wish. Apple gets one more strike for this and so does AT&T. Apparently AT&T won’t be offering any tethering plans for the iPhone . That means you won’t be able to use the iPhone as a modem from time to time. I don’t know if it’s AT&T’s or Apple’s fault. I don’t know if this decision is based on any OS incompatibilities between the iPhone and a PC or if it’s just another idea from the management. But I am sure more iPhone owners wish they could do some tethering once in a while.

Rumors, rumors and only rumors … yeah, there’s no solid word on these either, but probably, they represent some of the changes the iPhone will experience, getting 3G. The announcement is expected to happen during the Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June, similar to what Walt said. Three may be three versions: 8GB at $399, 16GB at $499 and possibly a 32GB of 3G iPhone experience at $599.

For its 3G, the second-gen iPhone is expected to use the Infineon S-GOLD3H chipset, which has support for HSDPA 7.2Mbps. Additionally, it can be used with up to 5-megapixel camera modules, so we may see some improvement in this aspect. However, a really great camera is not likely to be integrated in the “music phone”.
